Bout Of Books 10! (Sign up and goals post)

Hello BookNerds!

Image

It’s been a while!

Life has been busy and I was in the worst book slump of life. I have also been a nerdy dork and been playing an awful lot of video games! But there is nothing like Bout of Books to revive this old dusty blog. I’m not gone guys, just an awful lot spastic. I am currently running on 3 hours of sleep so please excuse any nonsensical sentences.

As some may know Bout Of Books is an especially important Read-A-Thon for me. Because it was a year ago, during Bout of Books that I met my Book BFFs. I may not read and blog everyday but I talk to these ladies on a regular basis. They are part of my life and couldn’t be happier about it. I feel like I always (and FINALLY) have a group of girls to rely on and share book related feels with.

So that is why I am participating in Bout of Books.

My goals Will be kept simple and I will almost certainly deviate from them.

Bookish Goals:

  • Read 5 books (minimum)
  • Read Sequels!
  • Read at least one contemporary
  • Read one adult book (likely a PNR)
  • Read a book my Book BFFs choose for me
  • Read 2-3 hours a day

Bloggy/Social Goals

  • Make Friends
  • Participate in most live chats
  • Cheer anyone who needs cheering
  • Recommend books
  • Write one review (at least)
  • HAVE FUN!

Some of the books I will be choosing from:

  • The One by Kiera Cass (Finish)
  • The Crown of Midnight by Sarah J. Maas

*Not All Books Pictured*

I’d also like to take this opportunity to announce upcoming changes for this blog. I am gong to be giving The Pretty Nifty (YA) Reader, not only a makeover but also a new name. The new name will be to encompass both my love of reading as well as all my other nerdy pastimes. I apologize if you find the other posts uninteresting. I hope you will like it. I will let you all know when the big reveal. For now I leave you with the new name: ReaDorkable!

HAPPY BOUT OF BOOKS EVERYONE!

Bout Of Books 8.0

Bout of Books

The Bout of Books read-a-thon is organized by Amanda @ On a Book Bender and Kelly @ Reading the Paranormal. It is a week long read-a-thon that begins 12:01am Monday, August 19th and runs through Sunday, August 25th in whatever time zone you are in. Bout of Books is low-pressure, and the only reading competition is between you and your usual number of books read in a week. There are challenges, giveaways, and a grand prize, but all of these are completely optional. For all Bout of Books 8.0 information and updates, be sure to visit the Bout of Books blog. – From the Bout of Books team

Happy Reading everyone!

I’m a BAD Blogger! (and other updates!)

I have been so M.I.A. lately that I am beating myself up over it! So I decided to share my recent feelings about blogging with you guys in the hopes that you all might help me get out of it! Yes? No? YES???? 🙂

The Book BFFs YouTube Channel has so far taken Precedence over most everything else book related. And I am not even reading that much.

Why?

LIFE! That’s why. Recent events are making it hard for me to even want to blog/read. I found out last month that my mom is sick (Long story but she could die at any time) and she’s only 45 years old. Also I moved 2 hours away from all my friends and family for the sake of my son’s relationship with his father so that has been pretty hard on my morale. In more recent news our town has seen some extreme weather. Take a look below:

2013-07-19 13.53.23 2013-07-19 13.51.32 2013-07-19 13.48.24 2013-07-19 13.46.46 2013-07-19 13.45.34 2013-07-19 13.45.22 2013-07-19 13.45.03 2013-07-19 13.20.03 2013-07-19 13.16.26 2013-07-19 13.14.34 2013-07-19 13.07.09 2013-07-19 13.06.59

And to top it all off, there is extra financial/marital troubles which I won’t go into details due to the boring and dramatic nature of these subjects.

So I am NOT abandonning this… Just putting it on the back burner. Not to worry however, you can find me among the other Book BFFs, the wondrous Lindsay, Melissa, Rie and Angela on our YouTube Channel/Twitter/Goodreads!

Mini Reviews: Dystopias Face-Off (1)

These mini reviews are of books I read without the intention to review. However, it seems ALL the books I read deserve a review. So here goes my mini reviews of 2 books per post every Thursday! Both books reviewed will face each other and YOU will vote for which is better! To make it fair and not a battle of genres both books will be from the same genre! Are you ready to vote?

Dystopias Face-Off!

The Forsaken by Lissa M. Stasse

In this dystopian world, every teenager must go through a test to determine if they are pre-disposed to crimes of violence, rebellion or too much independent thinking. If they fail, they are sent to an Island called The Wheel, where life expectancy is barely 2 years. Our main character Alenna, mysteriously fails and is sent to the island.

Although it took me a while to read this book, it wasn’t because it was boring or strenuous. This book is reminiscent of Lord of The Flies (which I read twice in high-school) and a bit of a disorganized Hunger Games type concept. These kids are just dropped on the island with no training or ways to survive.  It was intense and even violent at times. There were so many questions, most of which were answered. The whole book is a roller coaster. Never ending action with an edge of your seat feeling!

I gave it a 4 star rating!

The Forsaken (The Forsaken, #1)

 Glow by Amy Kathleen Ryan

This dystopia is more futuristic and Science-fiction but it’s still a dystopian on a smaller, spaceship sized scale. Int this book we have 2 ships who are on their way to inhabit a new planet. There is a whole eco-system, society, laws. Life is pretty simple on the ship. Until…. (read it and find out!)   Anyhow, this book does feature a love triangle and the pacing is a bit slower. This book deals with a lot controversial issues and I was happy to see our heroine stand up for her rights! The book is very atmospheric. I almost felt claustrophobic while reading it. It was an very entertaining read and I recommend it for fans of Beth Revis’ Across The Universe series. It is not as good but it the same category!   I gave it 3.5 stars! Book BFFs Interview with Angela from Reading Angel

The Book BFFs are making their debut into the book blogging world! We are a bunch of girls who share a love (an addiction would be a more accurate term) with books and reading! We all found eachother during Bout of Books 7.0. We decided we wanted to get to know eachother better and came up with interviews. We all interview a fellow Book BFF and in return we are interviewed by another Book BFF! Now this isn’t only for us! Anyone who shares a love (AKA addiction) for book can request to be interviewed by us. Or even you and your own Book BFF can interview eachother! Make it fun!

I was paired with Angela from Reading Angel!
And Rie from Mission To Read was appointed as my interviewer! Go check out her blog if you want to get to know me better! I will link all interviews after you all meet Angela!

So many things, but universally I need great characters that I can connect with in someway, emotions/action/and a flow that will keep me engrossed to the end.

4. What are the first 5 books that come to mind?

Eleanor and Park by Rainbow Rowell – because I just finished it.

5. What are your blogging tactics/strategies? How do you, personally, manage blogging and your real life?

Use a blogging calender religiously
Schedule tons of posts in advance when I have a free evening, because they don’t come often.

Don’t let myself stress the small stuff
Lean on my blogging friends when I do stress
