Armchair BEA Genre Discussion: Literary Fiction

First of all, I had to as myself: “What is Literary fiction?”

What literary fiction is, according to what I read, is a novel that doesn’t revolve around the plot but the “inner story”, the tone is more serious, darker and the pacing is slower, letting the reader delve in the story.

Now… My personal opinion of Literary Fiction is limited as I have read only a handful of books from this genre, most notably The Alchemist by Paolo Coelho, To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee, Animal Farm by George Orwell, Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden. I find the genre dragging for the most part. Out of the few books I read I only enjoyed a couple. Most of the Literary Fiction books I read, I read in high school and wasn’t so fond of. Also, since I was in french school I read many french books that are considered Literary Fiction. Given that I don’t give much thought to the genre I  have to stop here.

I hope you enjoyed reading my thoughts on this genre!
