Thankful for Books

Beth Revis (Fabulous Author of Accross The Universe) is hosting a
MASSIVE giveaway on her blog here!!

No to explain WHY the book I am most Thankful for is The Iron King by Julie Kagawa.

After I had my son in 2009 reading took second, third, fourth, basically last place. And I missed reading so much, I missed the thrill of an adventure, going so far yet staying right here on my couch, falling in love again.
I used to read 13+ books a month. Now, I am not back up to that yet but “The Iron King” rekindled my steamy romance with reading. And I read more books since June 2011 than I had in the previous 2-3 years! Some days I am too busy to pick up a book but I read most days again! I feel happier not that I’ve started reading again. I wouldn’t be this happy without Meghan, Puck, Ash and Grimalkin.

Thank You for reading!

Halfway Done: Accross The Universe by Beth Revis

Since Across The Universe by Beth Revis is SO FREXING (some will get this) AMAZING, I have decided that the books that make me close them in order to catch my breath and slow my heart down deserve a special post. I came up with “Halfway Done” (I know, very unoriginal). You know a book is good when I write a“Halfway Done”!

Let me start by saying OHMYGODIWANNALAUGHSCREAMCRYKISSTHEBOOK!
Yeah, That good! Beth Revis has  devised, no, created a wonderfully wonderful story worth buying 2-3 extra hardcover copies of the book and spread the masterpiece that is Across The Universe. As you all have guessed by now when this book is done the review will be fantastical!

I love you, Beth Cooper Revis. (yeah that’s right, I included a pun! And it was INTENDED!)

Seriously GET THAT BOOK if you haven’t already.

Waiting on Wednesday

Waiting On Wednesday is hosted by

Waiting on Wednesday is a Meme hosted by Breaking The Spine, where they share a book they’re impatiently waiting for! So here is my “Waiting on Wednesday”!

From Goodreads:

Who would have guessed that four minutes could change everything?Today should be one of the worst days of seventeen-year-old Hadley Sullivan’s life. She’s stuck at JFK, late to her father’s second wedding, which is taking place in London and involves a soon to be step-mother that Hadley’s never even met. Then she meets the perfect boy in the airport’s cramped waiting area. His name is Oliver, he’s British, and he’s in seat 18B. Hadley’s in 18A. Twists of fate and quirks of timing play out in this thoughtful novel about family connections, second chances and first loves. Set over a 24-hour-period, Hadley and Oliver’s story will make you believe that true love finds you when you’re least expecting it.

Why I want it?
Ok I know it’s completely out of my usual Paranormal romance but I recently bought my first Contemporary YA novel and I am developing a love for the genre. This sounds like a beautiful story and is sure to make me swoon a few times!

What are you waiting for?

This week I am waiting on…

From Goodreads:

Juliette hasn’t touched anyone in exactly 264 days. The last time she did, it was an accident, but The Reestablishment locked her up for murder. No one knows why Juliette’s touch is fatal. As long as she doesn’t hurt anyone else, no one really cares. The world is too busy crumbling to pieces to pay attention to a 17-year-old girl. Diseases are destroying the population, food is hard to find, birds don’t fly anymore, and the clouds are the wrong color.

The Reestablishment said their way was the only way to fix things, so they threw Juliette in a cell. Now so many people are dead that the survivors are whispering war- and The Reestablishment has changed its mind. Maybe Juliette is more than a tortured soul stuffed into a poisonous body. Maybe she’s exactly what they need right now.

Juliette has to make a choice: Be a weapon. Or be a warrior.

In this electrifying debut, Tahereh Mafi presents a world as riveting asThe Hunger Games and a superhero story as thrilling as The X-Men. Full of pulse-pounding romance, intoxicating villainy, and high-stakes choices, Shatter Me is a fresh and original dystopian novel—with a paranormal twist—that will leave readers anxiously awaiting its sequel.

Why I want it?

Obviously one of the main reasons is the fact that it’s a dystopian novel! And we all all know how much I LOVE a dystopian! A mortal touch? I mean come on! YAY!!

This work of art comes out November 15th 2011!

I am impatiently waiting!

REVIEW: Vesper by Jeff Sampson

Vesper
by Jeff Sampson

Pages: 304
Publisher: Balzer + Bray/ HarperCollins
Release date: January 25th 2011
Format: Hardcover
Shelfability: Acquire/Borrow
Reading Level: YA (16+)
My final rating: It will exceed your expectations

From Goodreads:

Emily Webb is a geek. And she’s happy that way. Content hiding under hoodies and curling up to watch old horror flicks, she’s never been the kind of girl who sneaks out for midnight parties. And she’s definitely not the kind of girl who starts fights or flirts with other girls’ boyfriends. Until one night Emily finds herself doing exactly that . . . the same night one of her classmates—also named Emily—is found mysteriously murdered.
The thing is, Emily doesn’t know why she’s doing any of this. By day, she’s the same old boring Emily, but by night, she turns into a thrill seeker. With every nightfall, Emily gets wilder until it’s no longer just her personality that changes. Her body can do things it never could before: Emily is now strong, fast, and utterly fearless. And soon Emily realizes that she’s not just coming out of her shell . . . there’s something much bigger going on. Is she bewitched by the soul of the other, murdered Emily? Or is Emily Webb becoming something else entirely— something not human?
As Emily hunts for answers, she finds out that she’s not the only one this is happening to—some of her classmates are changing as well. Who is turning these teens into monsters—and how many people will they kill to get what they want?

My Review:
I was genuinely surprised with this book. From what I heard and read it wasn’t that good. I admit It’s no Hunger Games but I started reading with low expectations and came out craving the sequel NOW!!! Jeff Sampson surprised me. I guess his being a man and all really helped in the not-completely-focused-on-romance department. The whole novel is about Emily’s transformation, acceptance and I really liked it. It was a welcomed change if I so say. If you are an “entertainment nerd” (as Emily put it) you’ll love all the pulp culture reference, her love of reading and paranormal/horror/cult shows and movies. Sampson’s writing style is fresh and identifiable.
Now for THE List:
What I loved:
  • The character development ( she was a little shy rose bud and she bloomed into a full fledged awesome-sauce covered heroine)
  • Pop culture reference
  • Having a nerd as a protagonist (deserves a SQUEE from me)
  • Writing style ( I talk like that sometimes)
  • Both Nighttime and Daytime Emily and how she came up with that!
  • Some of the scenes were I.N.T.E.N.S.E.
What I didn’t like all that much:
  • The pacing (It could have been edited a bit and made my heart pump even more)
  • Megan (GAWD is she ever annoyingly self centered!)
  • The lack of parental unit. (or their presence at least) Where the hell WERE they?
What did you think? Awesome or not? Comment and share! xoxoxo

(Havoc, Deviants #2 comes out January 2012)

Top Ten Tuesday!

Top Ten Books That

Whose Titles Or Covers

Made Me Buy It
Topten tuesdays is hosted by The broke and the bookish

  1.  The Mephisto Conevant by  Trinity Faegen:I realized (as well as the rest of you), that 2011 was the year of pretty girls in pretty dresses. This one however really caught my eye and I still find myself swooning over it.
  2. A Need so Beautiful by Suzanne Young:  I still don’t know what the story is about for this one. The cover is just so dreamy and angelic. I litterally feel like I am looking at an angel. And also, the word “beautiful” is in the title… Subliminal maybe?
  3. The Prophecy of the Sisters by Michelle Zink: I LOVE both the cover and the title but the story dragged on and on. I am not saying it isn’t a good book just a long one to get through. I still haven’t finished it.
  4. Firelight by Sophie Jordan: She is just so darned pretty isn’t she? With the shiny scales and fire red hair she looks like a superhero! The font of the title was also a big seller for me!
  5. Infinite Days by Rebecca Maizel: The tear, the looking up into the heavens, the “infinite”. Why wouldn’t I buy it?
  6. Twilight by Stephenie Meyer: when the book first came out in 2005 I didn’t know of it. Then 2006 rolled around, I was away at college, and I bought it simply because of the simplicity of the cover and intricacy of the font.
  7. Luminous by Dawn Metcalf: Now here is a perfect example of buying a book for it’s cover. The idea of the book is creepy to say the least (skeleton and whatnot, brrr!) but… COME. ON. THAT. COVER. IS. A. WORK. OF. ART. (yes, all caps were necessary for me to convey this point)
  8. Glimmerglass by Jenna Black: That one SPARKLES! I love the color, the smoke, the mirrored face! And is sitting on my bookshelf waiting for me to finish it. I will finish it I swear!
  9. Aurelia by Anne Osterlund. Pretty dress and the mask adds to the whole mystery!! I was shopping online, bought it and then read what it was about. YAY
  10. Timeless by Alexandra Monir: I love the Historical romantic look, the necklace, and she seems to be IN a galaxy. I guess… Is she between the time or is she dreaming?
